Forêt de la Haute-Doller
Grand-Est

Haut-Rhin
Between Belfort and Mulhouse, the Haute-Doller forest is an ancient massif, typical of the southern slope of the Vosges mountains. It is easily accessible via good forest and departmental roads, 35 min. from Mulhouse, 30 min. from Belfort, 55 min. from Basel and Colmar, and 1h45 from Strasbourg.
Nestled in the upper Doller valley, the Haute-Doller Forest spans nearly 170 hectares within the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park.
- It consists of a main massif of 90 contiguous hectares and additional plots, forming a coherent whole with a distinct mountainous character.
- Located on very varied soils, the property features a mosaic of sites ranging from dry oak-fir groves to beech-fir forests. This diversity gives the massif great ecological and forestry richness.
- The varied species, the presence of cool areas, and natural micro-habitats promote a biodiversity characteristic of the Vosges mountain forests.
- The forest is distinguished by the presence of beautiful mixed stands of firs, spruces, oaks, and beeches, supplemented by recent reforestations of Douglas firs, cedars, pines, larches, and walnuts. The stands are generally well-formed, with significant volumes and a growth dynamic directly related to their site.
- The well-distributed infrastructure facilitates management.
- The forest benefits from specific and funded measures aimed at promoting biodiversity. It also offers hunting interest, with a structured hunting area integrated into a vast forest ensemble.
The Forest
Historically managed as a regular high forest, the forest was left to evolve freely for several decades before being taken up in a more dynamic and diversified management, based on the gradual conversion to irregular high forest. This approach has enhanced the resilience of the massif to climatic and health disturbances, while maintaining a high level of timber production.
The forest now houses a fine balance between mature stands, young plantations, and areas of natural regeneration.
Access Roads
The movement within the massif is ensured by a network of well-structured forest tracks and paths, allowing for logging and skidding on most of the plots. In total, the property has about 10 kilometers of forest roads, including nearly 2 km of gravel roads and 8 km of permanent skidding tracks, ensuring good accessibility and the mobilization of wood in all seasons.
The Stand
The Haute-Doller Forest presents a varied structure, characteristic of the Vosges mountain massifs. The stands are predominantly made up of mature conifers, mainly silver fir, Norway spruce, and Douglas fir, supplemented by mixed and deciduous stands predominantly of beech, oak, and sycamore maple.1. Established stands: 140.11 ha
- Mixed stand - 55% of the area
- Deciduous stand - 17% of the area
- Spruce stand - 15% of the area
- Oak and fir stand - 5% of the area
- Fir stands - 4% of the area
2. Plantations and regrowth: 28.05 ha
About 23 ha were reforested between 2021 and 2025, as part of a Low Carbon certified project. These reforestations include: larch, Douglas fir, American oak, Atlas cedar, and walnut, as well as alder in wet areas.
Hunting
The Haute-Doller Forest harbors an abundant and diverse fauna. It is home to red deer, roe deer, wild boar, and chamois in the highest sectors. This faunal richness contributes to the natural character of the site.
The forest is subject to the hunting regulations in force in the Haut-Rhin department, which requires a minimum area of 25 hectares in one piece for the constitution of a hunting lot.
The main objective is to maintain a sustainable balance between wildlife and forest regeneration, particularly by controlling populations of deer and roe deer, whose pressure can locally hinder natural regeneration. Hunting also helps regulate the populations of wild boars, which are expanding significantly in the valley.
Conclusion
The Haute-Doller Forest constitutes a beautiful private forest ensemble for this southern sector of the Vosges.
- With its expanse of nearly 170 hectares, its diversity of species, and the quality of its stands, it offers a balance between production, heritage, and biodiversity.
- The ensemble is distinguished by a solid silvicultural structure, a high standing capital, and a well-engaged renewal dynamic, supported by recent reforestations and sustainable management practices.
- The station and climatic conditions, combined with efficient access, guarantee regular exploitation and a long-term valorization potential.Located at the heart of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, the property benefits from a remarkable landscape environment, where forest management harmoniously combines with the conservation of wildlife and natural environments.
- The presence of diverse fauna, the ecological richness of the sites, and the integration into a territory known for the quality of its forest management enhance its attractiveness.
- Both productive and emblematic, the Haute-Doller Forest represents a rare opportunity for sustainable forest investment, combining forestry profitability, heritage value, and environmental commitment in a preserved setting.
