This forest property is dominated by stands of noble hardwoods, primarily oak, along with chestnut, beech, and maple.
The stands, largely derived from ancient coppice-with-standards enriched over time, now present a well-structured forest capital with high valorization potential.
The forest sites, typical of the loamy-clay soils of the Paris Basin, are recognized for their good oak production capabilities.
The property also benefits from a gentle relief conducive to forestry operations, and functional access that allows entry to various plots.
In an environment largely dominated by crops, this massif also serves as a quality game refuge, sought after for deer and wild boar hunting.
With an area close to 100 hectares, the coherence of its stands, and the quality of its sites, Bois du Roi represents a particularly interesting forest investment in the current market.
The main advantages of this property are:
- An attractive area close to 100 hectares, a sought-after size in the forest market;
- A dominance of oak with the presence of high-quality timber;
- Productive forest sites suited to noble hardwoods;
- Favorable relief and good access, facilitating management and exploitation;
- An interesting game territory in an open agricultural environment;
The Forest
Access
The property is bordered on its western front for about 500 meters by departmental road no. 1 linking Saint-Quentin to Chauny. Access to the forest is via departmental road 53 (route de Liez) through a metal gate (roadside).
A forest road in excellent condition allows access to the heart of the forest and reaches a logging depot accessible to logging trucks. Traffic within the forest is primarily supported by a network of natural terrain tracks, easily passable in dry periods.
These routes ensure
- access to the plots,
- the extraction of timber
- and the organization of silvicultural operations.
The Wood
The Oak, predominantly sessile, dominates the hardwood species encountered.
- Perfectly adapted to the pedoclimatic context, it produces slender woods, free of major defects and appreciated by processors.
- In the densest plots, the ability to produce quality timber is proven.
- The natural regeneration of this species establishes easily, ensuring management comfort and low renewal costs.
The Red Oak, introduced for enrichment purposes or in plantations, shows sustained growth and good conformation.
The Poplar was introduced by planting with sometimes heterogeneous results depending on the cultivars chosen.
Stand
The stands of Bois du Roi are structured in high forests and mixed high forest-coppice dominated by oak. The conservative management of the high forests locally leads to the formation of very dense, slender stands with a high proportion of quality timber.
An inventory was carried out on January 26 and 27, 2026, with measurements of diameters at breast height, i.e., 1.3m and by 5 cm classes on an area of 63.45 ha. This counting was conducted according to the following guidelines:
- Quality: all healthy woods were inventoried; for oak, quality premiums were assigned to foot logs capable of producing stave wood (cooperage) or planks (cabinet making), i.e., woods free of major defects on the first meters.
- Heights: visual appraisal, by plot, of all the cutting heights of the logs with their ability to produce timber as the limit.
- Cubage rates: Adrian II for all species except chestnut whose woods are more conical and were estimated in Adrian IV.
- Guidelines: Consideration only of small woods of 25 and 30 cm likely to provide timber in the long term (marked with a pink or orange dot). Quality heating stems were not taken into account.
Hunting
This forest constitutes a hunting territory very well located geographically.
It is a plain wood serving as a refuge for mainly deer and wild boars.
The damage related to game remains generally controlled.
The massif is also conducive to woodcock hunting, the diversity of the stands and the tranquility of the site offering favorable conditions for the attendance of this migratory bird.
Located at the gates of Saint-Quentin, in the heart of a landscape forming a mosaic of agricultural lands and wooded massifs. Numerous game management facilities have been implemented and complement the network of alleys and forest roads. Hunting is currently leased under a contract running until the end of the 2028-2029 season. This lease, concluded without remuneration, is part of a territory management and game regulation strategy.
Conclusion
Located in the heart of the Aisne department, immediately near Saint-Quentin, Bois du Roi benefits from a favorable geographical location, halfway between Paris and Brussels, in a territory marked by a strong agricultural, forestry dynamic and the presence of significant players in the wood sector.
With an area close to one hundred hectares, the coherence of its stands, and the quality of its sites, this massif constitutes a particularly interesting forest ensemble in the current context of the forest market.
The favorable soils, gentle relief, and existing access allow for effective silvicultural management and facilitate exploitation operations.
Thanks to conservative management, the forest now has a significant stock of good quality oak, with a future potential rooted in deep, fertile soils with good usable reserves.
Well managed, this forest will allow the generation of regular income for the future owner while increasing in value.
Harvests will occur in a context of a sustained market for hardwoods, particularly oak. In a context of a sustained market for hardwoods, particularly oak, this property offers a sought-after combination of heritage security, income generation, and capital valorization prospects.
