The Roucor Forest today embodies the characteristics of a sought-after forest asset thanks to the following features:
- An area over 50 hectares, suitable for implementing rational management,
- Diversified stands in species and maturity,
- Soils conducive to the production of quality timber and natural regeneration,
- Well-organized and functional access,
- Proximity to efficient processing units.
The Forest
Relief
The Roucor massif occupies a plateau characteristic of the foothills of the Black Mountain. The forest is established around 300 meters above sea level, in a generally moderate relief. Across most of the property, the slopes remain regular, ranging between 10 and 20%, indicating a topography compatible with most forestry operations. The Wood
The plots were predominantly planted in the 1960s through the 1980s with a wide range of species.Douglas fir, firs, and larches occupy a significant area, the growth dynamics and wood quality are good to very good, and natural regeneration is taking place in the understory.
The forest also has the distinctive feature of having hosted an arboretum in the southern part of the massif. About fifteen coniferous and deciduous species from North America were planted in clusters.
Other trials were continued in the 1980s, this time in the northern part of the forest. This time, the cluster plantings consist of American red oak, cedar, cherry, Douglas fir, sequoia, and thuja.
Tree-by-tree Inventory
In spring 2026, a tree-by-tree inventory will cover the main mature Douglas fir stands, amounting to 15.03 ha out of the 18.98 ha of this type of stand. It will allow for the assessment of volumes by species and quality. The inventory will focus on the most easily identifiable Douglas fir stands. This work allows for precise knowledge of the volume and quality of timber that this forest carries. It is available upon request.
Key Takeaways
The Roucor Forest constitutes a unique land and forest unit, nestled in the heart of a region renowned for the quality and productivity of its coniferous forests.- It is a diversified massif, dominated by quality coniferous stands (notably Douglas and Pines) complemented by a significant area of mixed stands rich in various species.
- The overall structure, oriented towards an irregular high forest, offers, thanks to its fertile sites, a good capacity to adapt to climatic hazards while maintaining a strong production potential.
- The forest stands are productive, well-structured.
- Regular thinning will therefore generate regular and substantial income for the buyer. Indeed, the mature stands of Douglas and Pines are in full capitalization phase, offering promising prospects for timber harvests in the coming years.
